Statement

I view my work as rebellion. Rebellion against the preconceived notions of signified identities; namely, what it means to be a woman. Saturated, acidic colors serve both to combat our grayed-out social structures while celebrating the possibilities and nuances of female empowerment. The gridded and rectangular format are representations of historical and dogmatic norms within art and society. Thus, the conventionally rectangular format which adheres to “the grid” is completely deconstructed and reimagined through often interdisciplinary, shaped works. More recent textile works are completed using traditional tufting and quilting methods-repetatively slow processes that conjure a meditative space as they bridge the past and present.
